A Thank You to our Teachers and Support Staff

ROYAL OAK SCHOOLS FOUNDATION AND ROYAL OAK DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY THANK ROYAL OAK SCHOOLS EMPLOYEES FOR 2020 EFFORT WITH A GIFT
2020 has been a tough year by any measure.  But imagine being a teacher, or school employee during 2020.  Shifting from in class learning to e-learning in a matter of weeks, keeping students safe when they returned to the classroom, feeding children who miss their daily school lunch, pivoting and informing thousands of students of the changing schedule and agenda.  It is an effort that deserves recognition.
The Royal Oak Schools Foundation is providing a holiday gift of $30 in Downtown Dollars partially funded by the Royal Oak Downtown Development Authority to over 600 Royal Oak Schools employees to show our appreciation of their extra effort this year educating and supporting Royal Oak Schools Students.
“We asked some of the teachers what they needed this holiday season” said Scott Brown, current President of the Royal Oak Schools Foundation, “they said that they would like to cook one less meal or have one less present to buy ... take something off their plate so they could enjoy their reduced free time”
While brainstorming possible gift ideas, a board member suggested the DDA’s Downtown Dollars program.  For $20, you can purchase $30 in Downtown Dollars to be spent at any of the participating Downtown Royal Oak businesses. The DDA funds the additional $10 as part of their program.  It was an opportunity to reward our teachers and school employees for their efforts and help our Downtown retailers during a particularly difficult year.  Each employee will be receiving $30 to spend at participating downtown Royal Oak merchants on whatever they choose, a meal, a gift, a hairstyling, a yoga class ... even a dog grooming.  The possibilities are endless in Downtown Royal Oak.
Thanks to each Royal Oak Schools teacher, para-professional, psychologist, counselor, social worker, occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech therapist, custodian, maintenance, building secretary and central office staff member will receive an email from the Foundation and the Authority rewarding them with a download of $30 in Downtown Dollars as a small token of our thanks and recognition of their efforts this year
While the Royal Oak Downtown Development Authority and The Royal Oak Schools Foundation made this gift possible, funds for this gift were raised this summer during the Foundation’s “Farmers Market Haul” program which delivered fresh vegetables directly to doorsteps during the pandemic.  So really, it’s a gift from all the residents to the teachers and staff of Royal Oak Schools.

ROSF Donates $6000 more to Royal Oak Youth Assistance

ROYA has been an important safety net in our community for years.  COVID-19  has tested their ability to care for our school community with so many additional families in need.  The Royal Oak Schools Foundation (ROSF) initially donated $6000 at the onset of the crisis to provide Royal Oak Youth Assistance with the necessary funds to make it through the school year.  As summer is now upon us the need has not slowed so we have made an additional $6000 donation to ROYA to help get them through the summer.

Facebook Day Of Giving raises $2525 for ROSF

Thank you to the 50 people who donated on Facebook's #DayOfGiving #GivingTuesday on Tuesday May 5th.  We had a goal of raising $2500 before the end of Giving Tuesday and it came right down to the wire, but we made it due to your generosity.  The money will be used to assist the Royal Oak Schools Community during this time of need.  Stay Tuned!  Tuesday May 26th will be a giving Tuesday to raise $1500 with a portion of the proceeds going to help fund a senior gift for the class of 2020 whose Graduation Ceremony was cancelled due to the COVID-19 Virus.  Visit our Facebook Page for more info.

Royal Oak Schools Foundation
donates to help students and families
during this crisis

The Coronavirus outbreak closing schools has had many effects on our student population and their families. Our mission is enriching lives through enhanced educational opportunities for the Royal Oak Public School Community.  During this time, students are unable to physically attend class or get lunches and supplies that are normally provided at school.
During our board meeting on March 31, 2020, we were forced to announce the cancellation of our 2020 Royal Oak Schools Foundation Golf Outing.

This is our largest fundraiser and we will need to create a replacement for it in the fall.  Suggestions are welcome.  Also during the meeting we were forced to cancel our largest philanthropic effort for 2020.  The only benefit to this is that we had some available funds to assist organizations helping the Royal Oak Schools Communities NOW!

The Coronavirus has disrupted our school routines, and some families in the area rely on our schools for meals in addition to a fine education.  Royal Oak Schools provide lunch five days a week for families in need through the Feed Our Kids program (click link for details).

However there are some families that still have additional needs and these are being met in part by two organizations in Royal Oak;  Blessings in a Backpack and Royal Oak Youth Assistance (ROYA).  The Royal Oak Schools Foundation is providing a $10,000.00 gift divided between these two worthy organizations.

Blessings in a Backpack is making hundreds of supplemental food deliveries during the crisis to Royal Oak Schools families in need.  We are providing funding for the organization to procure food and packaging to continue their efforts during the crisis

Royal Oak Youth Assistance is ready and willing to help our schools community as we all move into uncharted territory together.  ROYA is making available emergency needs grants of $200 per child, available for families with children under 17 who live in Royal Oak or attend Royal Oak Schools. These grants can help pay for housing, utilities, groceries, medication, etc. for families that who are facing an economic crisis during this pandemic.

ROSF is happy to provide funds to these great organizations during this time of need, but are sad to lose our largest fundraiser.   If you would like to donate to the Royal Oak Schools Foundation, just click here.

Become Part of the Future!
  • The Royal Oak Schools Foundation is a service-based volunteer organization serving the Royal Oak community
  • We provide funding for educational programs to Royal Oak’s public schools
  • Contributions may be tax-deductible
After many years of awarding mini-grants to very grateful teachers, the Foundation is now seeking to focus its funding efforts on targeted initiatives. Rather than scattering funding to many smaller requests, the focus is now on identifying key initiatives that
  1. Have the potential for district-wide impact,
  2. Address specific identified needs
  3. Where possible, provide an opportunity to partner with other groups and organizations, thus increasing the impact of funding.
